Chime currently has over 16 million members, 8 million of which use Chime as their primary financial service. (1)

Undoubtedly, some users have sent a payment that they’d like to cancel or perhaps have transactions in their account that they didn’t make and suspected fraud.

If this is you, or if you have some other reason you’d like to cancel a Chime payment/transfer, keep reading this guide.

I researched for hours everything you need to know about canceling Chime payments, how to do it, and exactly what can and can’t be canceled.

In This Post:

Can You Cancel a Chime Payment?

As a general rule of thumb, you can cancel Chime transactions that are still pending and sent using the “Pay Anyone” feature when the person you sent it to isn’t a Chime member and hasn’t yet retrieved the funds.

All other transactions with Chime are unable to be canceled without the transaction first clearing and then filing a dispute with Chime. I will cover how to file a dispute with Chime more in-depth later in this article.

Let’s take a look at exactly how to see these pending transactions with Chime.

How to View Pending Chime Transactions

Before you can cancel a payment or transfer in Chime, you have to first find your pending transactions. You can view your pending transactions in both the Chime app and on the Chime website by doing the following:

Using the Chime App

  1. Launch your Chime app and log in to your account.
  2. Once you are logged in, locate where it says “View Transactions” and tap on it. The link to “View Transactions” should be located at the bottom of your recent transactions.
  3. Any transactions that you have in your Chime spending account that are still pending will show “Pending” beneath the dollar amount of the transaction on the far right side of the screen. If it doesn’t, that means that transaction has cleared.

On the Chime Website

  1. Visit the Chime website and log in to your account.
  2. Once you are logged in, you should see a list of all of your transactions in your Chime Spending account. Locate any transactions that show the word “Pending” beneath the dollar amount of the transaction (on the far right of the screen). Any transactions that don’t have the word “Pending” beneath the dollar amount have already cleared and have been processed.

Can You Call Chime to Cancel a Pending Transaction?

You can call chime and cancel a pending transaction just like you would from within the app and only for transactions where you sent a payment using the “Pay Friends” feature.

If you need to dispute a transaction due to an error or any other reason, you first will need to wait for the transaction to clear. This can take up to 3 business days.

Let’s take a look at exactly how to dispute a Chime transaction.

How to Dispute a Chime Transaction

The only way to dispute a transaction in Chime that I could find is through the Chime App. If you are aware of another way, feel free to contact me to let me know. Also, you must wait for a transaction to clear before you can dispute it. This can take up to 3 business days to occur.

To dispute a Chime transaction:

  1. Launch your Chime app and log in to your account.
  2. Locate the transaction that you’d like to dispute and tap on it. This will open a menu with additional info and options.
  3. Tap on “Problem with this transaction?”.
  4. On the menu that opens, tap on “Start dispute” to have Chime start looking into that transaction.

How Can You Disable Chime Transactions?

If you suspect you are the victim of fraud or you’ve lost your Chime debit card or Chime Credit Builder card, it’s important to try to protect your account.

To do this, I recommend disabling transactions using your Chime debit card or Chime Credit Builder card until you can get things sorted out.

So how can you disable Chime transactions?

Using the Chime App

  1. Launch your Chime app and log in to your account.
  2. In the top left corner of the app, tap on the gear icon to bring up your Chime app settings.
  3. Scroll down until you see a toggle switch for your Chime Debit card and Credit Builder card. Toggle these off to disable transactions with them.

On the Chime Website

  1. Visit the Chime website and log in to your account.
  2. Click on your name in the top right corner of the website to open the pull-down menu.
  3. Click on settings from the pull-down menu.
  4. In the “Password & Security” section, toggle off your Chime Debit card and Chime Credit Builder card to disable transactions with them.

Wrapping Up

Canceling Chime transactions are possible in cases where you are using the “Pay Friends” feature in Chime to send money to someone else and that person doesn’t have a Chime account and consequently hasn’t claimed the funds.

If you need to dispute a transaction or if you feel you are a victim of fraud, you have options too. Chime takes security issues very seriously. In addition, there are things you can do to help protect yourself if you need to as well.
