How to Use Chime Pay Anyone (Complete Guide)

This is step-by-step how to send and request payment using Chime Pay Anyone.

A) Sending Payment

  • Step 1: Open your Chime app and Log in to your account.
  • Step 2: Tap the “Pay Anyone” tab at the bottom of the Chime app.

  • Step 3: Search for your friend’s name or $ChimeSign, or enter the email or phone number of someone who isn’t on Chime.

  • Step 4: Enter the payment amount you are sending and the reason.
  • Step 5: Confirm the amount and the recipient and then tap the “Pay” button.

B) Requesting Payment

  • Step 1: Open your Chime app and Log in to your account.
  • Step 2: Tap the “Pay Anyone” tab at the bottom of the Chime app.

How Long Do Pay Anyone Payments Take?

Chime Pay Anyone payments are INSTANT.

However…

The amount of time it takes for the transaction to go through depends on how long it takes for the person who is receiving payment to “claim” the payment.

They have UP TO 14 days to claim the payment so the amount of time it actually takes could vary some.

If they fail to claim payment within 14 days, the funds will be returned.

I’ll show you how to claim a Chime Pay Anyone payment momentarily.

How Do They Claim Payment?

The person you’re sending money to will receive notification in the Chime App (if they have an account).

Otherwise they will receive a text or email (depending on which one you sent it to).

If they don’t have a Chime account, they will have to provide a bank account and routing number to claim the funds.

Once they’ve done that, the payment should be instant.

Is a Chime Account Required?

No, you don’t need a Chime account and/or to sign up for anything to receive payment using Chime Pay Anyone.

This is one of the main differences between Chime Pay Anyone and the old payment system Chime had known as Chime Pay Friends (which allowed people to only send money to other Chime users).

In most cases, the only thing they need is a bank account (doesn’t matter where) and a cell phone or email address so they can be notified of the payment.

Are There Limits When Using Pay Anyone?

There are limits to be aware of when you’re using Chime Pay Anyone.

These limits vary from person to person.

The good news is there AREN’T limits on the number of transactions when using Chime Pay Me.

Just on the transfer amounts.

How to Check Your Limits

To Check your Pay Anyone Limits:

  • Step 1: Open your Chime app and log in to your account.
  • Step 2: Tap on the gear icon in the top left corner of the app to bring up your settings.

  • Step 3: Scroll down and tap on “View limits”.

How Much are Fees?

There are NO FEES when using Chime Pay Anyone to send money to or request money from people.

That’s GREAT, right? I thought so too.

Usage Tips

One of the most frequent issues that people have when using Chime Pay Anyone is sending a payment to someone that forgot they have a Chime account.

If this happens and they go to claim the payment…

The payment will typically go into that person’s Chime account (even if they are unaware they have one).

This can lead to some confusion (obviously).

Also…

If it’s been a few days and the person you’re sending money to or requesting money from hasn’t responded yet, Chime does allow you to “remind” them from within the app.

Is Chime Pay Anyone Safe/Secure?

Yes, Chime Pay Anyone is safe and secure.

Your Chime account and your Pay Anyone transactions are FDIC insured for up to $250,000 through The Bancorp Bank or Stride Bank; Members FDIC.

However…

Just like anything online, you have to be careful and use common sense whenever using it.

There ARE scams out there so make sure you know 100% that the person you’re sending money to using your Chime Pay Anyone isn’t one of them.

What to Do if I Have Problems?

If you have any problems using Chime Pay Anyone or if you have questions, the best thing to do is to contact Chime support.

The easiest way is to use the Chime support chat found from within Chime App.

How to Contact Chime Support

  • Step 1: Open your Chime app and log in to your account.
  • Step 2: Tap on the question mark icon found near the top left corner of the app (next to the gear icon).

This will start an automated chat with Chime support.

However…

You can also speak to an actual customer support representative if you can’t find the help you’re looking for using the automated system.
